From The Holy Post, I received, Becoming God’s Family: Why The Church Still Matters, by Carmen Joy Imes. Although I thoroughly enjoy listening to The Holy Post podcasts, their free books are not usually my favorite. This book is very good!
In an age where the church has become corrupt and less relevant, Carmen traces the Old Testament and New Testament theme of community and why it has always been God’s purpose to work through his community. Carmen is an Old Testament scholar and in this book she shows several instances where we interpret many well-known stories within the Old Testament wrong because our culture reads them individually instead of collectively.
I was challenged and encouraged by Carmen’s book to seek community in my relationship with God and the world.
